That’s how my house ended up with it. Gemini comes with our Verizon plan. I think ten dollars is what it is. It’s like you get a discount or something.
My wife uses it. Me, I just never used it. We’ve got our own accounts and I just never used it. So it’s a shame, right?
The one place Gemini does pull weight for me isn’t the app at all. It sorts broken runs from my robots (scheduled jobs that run overnight on my Mac mini), easy ones to Codex and hard ones to Claude. The numbers from that are further down.
Five Gemini plans run from $0 to $199.99 a month
Google’s Gemini plans page, US prices, October 23, 2026.
Prices and inclusions come from Google’s Gemini subscriptions page and the Google AI plans comparison, checked October 23, 2026. Paid plans need a personal Google account and an adult 18 or over. Every paid tier can be shared with up to five family members.
Google AI Pro is the plan that used to be called Gemini Advanced. If an older page quotes you a “Gemini Advanced” price, it means this row.
The jump that matters for most people is Plus to Pro. Plus puts Gemini in Gmail. Pro adds it in Docs and Sheets, plus 5 TB of storage.
The same Google AI Pro plan costs $10 a month through Verizon
Verizon’s support page is plain about it: you can get “a Google AI Pro perk subscription for $10/month with eligible mobile phone or home internet plans. A $19.99/month value.”
Verizon’s Google AI Pro perk page, October 23, 2026.
So my guess was right. Here are the rules from Verizon’s perk FAQ:
- Eligible plans: Unlimited Ultimate, Unlimited Plus, Unlimited Welcome and the Simplicity plan on phones, plus 5G Home, LTE Home, Home Internet Lite and most Fios Home Internet plans.
- One perk per eligible line, and one per Fios account. The charge shows up on your Verizon bill.
- Activate within 90 days of buying the perk.
- Already paying Google through Apple? Cancel that subscription with Apple yourself, or you end up with two.
- Sharing: the family manager can add up to five people, and each one enrolls on their own account at no extra cost.
That last rule is my house exactly. One plan, separate accounts, and only one of us opens the Gemini app.
US college students get Google AI Pro free for a year
Google’s student offer gives eligible US college students 18 and over a free year of Google AI Pro. You have to redeem it by December 31, 2026, and a card is required at sign-up.
After the year it bills at the normal Pro price unless you cancel. You also have to re-verify that you’re a student every year to keep it.
Your job may already pay for Gemini through Google Workspace
If your work email runs on Google, check before you buy anything. Google Workspace pricing on October 23, 2026, per user per month on an annual plan:
| Workspace plan | Price | Gemini you get |
|---|---|---|
| Business Starter | $7 | Gemini in Gmail, chat with the Gemini app |
| Business Standard | $14 | Gemini in Gmail, Docs, Meet and more, plus Gemini Notebook |
| Business Plus | $22 | Everything in Standard |
New Workspace customers get an intro discount on top of those prices. If that’s you, the real question is whether to pay for a second AI on top of the one your job gave you. I work through that in Gemini vs ChatGPT.
Where I land: torn, and Gemini’s real job here is triage
I think I’m torn. I don’t necessarily need it, but I’m finding use cases for it.
Now we kind of have it on deck with a CLI we can access, so now it’s just an additional helper we have if we need to test something.
That CLI is Google’s Antigravity command line tool, signed in on Google AI Pro. Google’s plans comparison lists Antigravity agent requests as Limited on Plus, Expanded on Pro and higher on Ultra. My scripts call it with no API key and no per-call bill.
Here’s where it earns the slot. One of the things we’re doing is fixing easy bugs, and that’s another use case where we’re using Gemini. Gemini is just classifying it.
Think of it like IT support: what’s in the backlog, what’s pending? This is easy, hand it off to Codex. This is hard, hand it off to Claude.
In practice my robot help desk reads each failed night job and Gemini 3.8 Flash sorts it into four levels:
- L1 and L2: a clear cause in one to four files. Codex gets it and tries a fix.
- L3: big, unclear or failed twice. Claude gets it.
- L4: it needs me, like a login, 2FA, a credit or a decision.
My help desk sorter and its bake-off, October 22, 2026.
Before trusting it, I replayed 30 frozen failures on October 22. Claude Opus wrote the answer key. Gemini Flash matched it on 25 of 30, with 2 dangerous misses. Claude Haiku matched 18, with 3.
Flash is slow, about 69 seconds a call against 9 for Haiku. On a night job nobody cares. It became the nightly default.
Two dangerous misses in 30 isn’t zero. But Gemini is only sorting. Codex and Claude do the fixing.
So I can’t tell you Gemini is the better chatbot. I haven’t earned that, because I don’t use the app. If you want that fight, Claude vs Gemini has it.
What I can tell you is the plan my wife uses also runs a help desk for me at no extra cost.
Two Gemini API prices double on December 1 and January 1
The subscription doesn’t cover the Gemini API. If someone hands you an API key, you pay per token on Google’s paid tier. Standard rates per 1 million tokens from Google’s API pricing page, last updated October 22, 2026:
| Model | Input | Output | After the scheduled change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gemini 4 Argon | $2.00 | $10.00 | $4.00 input, $20.00 output from December 1, 2026 |
| Gemini 3.1 Pro Preview | $2.00 | $12.00 | None listed (prompts up to 200K tokens) |
| Gemini 3.8 Flash | $0.75 | $3.75 | $1.50 input, $7.50 output from January 1, 2027 |
| Gemini 2.5 Flash | $0.30 | $2.50 | None listed |
The Batch API cuts those rates in half. Flash models also have a free tier for testing, and Argon does not.
If you’re budgeting an API project this quarter, price it at the new rates, not today’s.
Check your phone bill before you pay Google $19.99
My wife got Gemini through the $10 door on our Verizon bill. I got a help desk out of the same plan without ever opening the app.
My rule: check the doors before you pay list price.
- Your job runs on Google Workspace: use the Gemini you already have first.
- You’re on an eligible Verizon plan: take the $10 perk.
- You’re a US college student: claim the free year before December 31.
- You only want help in Gmail: Plus at $4.99 is enough.
- None of those, and you live in Google: Pro at full price. Go to Ultra only when Pro’s limits stop you.
Weighing Gemini against the other $20 plans? Start with Claude pricing.
Where this comes from
Every price is from Google’s and Verizon’s own pages, read October 23, 2026. What’s mine is our Verizon plan and my help desk’s October 22 bake-off log.
I don’t use the Gemini app, and I haven’t tested Plus, Ultra, the student year or the API. Those rows are Google’s word.

Frequently asked questions
How much is Gemini per month?
Gemini is free with a Google account. In the US, Google AI Plus is $4.99 a month, Google AI Pro is $19.99, and Google AI Ultra is $99.99 for 5x Pro's usage or $199.99 for 20x, per Google's plans page on October 23, 2026.
Is Gemini Advanced the same as Google AI Pro?
Yes. Gemini Advanced is the old name for what Google now sells as Google AI Pro. Some pages still use the old name, including parts of Verizon's own perk FAQ, which says Google AI Pro includes access to Gemini Advanced.
Is Google AI Pro really $10 a month with Verizon?
Yes, on eligible plans. Verizon sells the Google AI Pro perk for $10 a month, calling it a $19.99 value. It works on select Unlimited phone plans, Verizon Home Internet and Fios Home Internet, one perk per eligible line, and you must activate it within 90 days.
Can I get Google AI Pro free as a student?
Eligible US college students 18 and over can get Google AI Pro free for one year. You have to redeem by December 31, 2026, add a payment method at sign-up, and verify eligibility each year. It charges $19.99 a month after the free year unless you cancel.
Does Google AI Pro include the Gemini API?
No. The Gemini API bills separately, per token, on Google's paid tier. Google AI Pro does include $10 a month in Google Cloud credits through the Google Developer Program, and Ultra includes $40 or $100.
Do I already have Gemini through work?
If your company uses Google Workspace, probably. Business Starter includes Gemini in Gmail and the Gemini app. Business Standard and Plus add Gemini in Docs, Meet and more. Ask whoever runs your Google account at work which plan you are on before buying your own.
